The Notch Backpack — Sewing Pattern and Guide
Some packs just feel right. The Notch is designed with that feeling in mind.
Drawn from the classic climbing, hiking, and mountaineering packs of the 1970s and 80s, The Notch carries the DNA of makers like Kelty, Madden Equipment, and Hines Snowbridge. Clean lines, purposeful construction, and hardware you can actually trust. This is a pack built to last and built to look like it means something.
What you get

Skill level
Intermediate. We recommend completing a few smaller projects before attempting The Notch. A couple of stuff sacks or a fanny pack will give you the foundational skills you need. No industrial sewing machine required, though heavier fabric choices may call for one.
A note on materials
The Notch is designed to work with a wide range of fabrics, from classic 1000D Cordura and ballistic nylon for a true vintage look, to technical laminates like X-Pac for a more modern build. Detailed fabric recommendations are included throughout the guide.
